It’s been two weeks so it’s time I write this review! A little background first so you have a point of reference on where this is coming from. I (Todd) just turned the big five-oh and Troy (husband) is in his late 40’s. Our cruise history is mostly Neptune suites on HAL up until around 2006 and then Sky and Celebrity suites on Celebrity for the past 10 years with two Windstar thrown in there. On land trips we stay in Waldorf’s, St. Regis’ and Four Seasons. We enjoy a refined, hip, lively atmosphere and while we don’t consider ourselves foodies, anyone listening to us talk about food certainly would……or maybe that’s gluttons……oh well, fine line haha. I haven’t written reviews on our last few cruises and promised I would this time so here goes but be warned that it turned out a lot longer than I expected.

I’ll start by saying we had an amazing cruise. I wish I could give 4.5 stars as there were some things that didn’t fit our cruising style or that we thought could be improved but I rounded up since Azamara, the officers and the crew really seemed to care and were just all around good people. I never had the feeling that they were out to get you for all your $$ or argue silly points of policy/procedure. All of the officers were very visible and it was great to see the captain interacting and being dad with his family who were onboard.

Embarkation was quick and easy, no lines and onboard in a few minutes. The had a desk set up to the right of check in for specialty restaurants and we were able to book those before boarding and was nice to get that out of the way.

Port Reviews

Amsterdam

We walked around the what felt like the entire city the first night. We enjoyed a lovely Italian meal at Campo de Fiori and then hit a great little smoky jazz club. The second day we went to the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum. We walked around for some shopping and then did a canal tour with Lover's Canal Cruises. A great city that we'll surely come back to.

Copenhagen

Walked in to town and went to the National Museum and then the Rosenborg Castle. The National Museum was oddly laid out and didn't give me the history I was looking for, lots of items on exhibit that all began to run together with no story. The Rosenborg Castle was interesting and worth the visit. We couldn't go to Copenhagen without going to Tivoli so we spent hours there riding the rides and then went to the new trendy area of the Meat Packing District for dinner at Fleisch which was amazing! We were lucky that we left port at 10pm so we were able to enjoy lots of Copenhagen.

Helsinki

Here we just walked around the town and took in the local vibe. We visited the Chapel of Silence and the Rock Church which were both amazing and very moving. Kapelli's was a recommended stop for a pastry and coffee but we thought it was horrible. The coffee was....well coffee and we ended up leaving the pastries uneaten after having a few bites.

Tallinn

Cute, quaint town great for walking around, shopping and having a bite to eat. We loved the market on the square and had a nice, long lunch on the square watching local performers do some sort of stage show.

Stockholm

Beautiful city! Cruising through the archipelago was definitely one of the highlights of the cruise! Once in port we walked around the Gamla Stan and then headed over to Djurgarden. Just a wonderful place to be!
