It was with some trepidation we took our first Holland America Line cruise after reading the reviews here. Having experienced a near perfect holiday, I am writing this review to try and add some balance to the negative reviews.
To add background, we are a family of 4 with two children aged 11 and 7. This was our 11th family cruise having previously sailed with Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Carnival.
Koningsdam is a stunning ship with varied and high quality food choices, friendly staff, great evening entertainment offerings and a relaxed but non "stuffy" vibe. We loved our 7 days on-board.
The best bathroom/shower we have enjoyed at sea. Easily enough storage space for a family of 4 and large flat screen TV. The restricted view balcony was disappointing but not a deal breaker.
Pretty enough but not a huge amount to do. Plenty of local and cheap boat excursions to Pulpit Rock. Again, far better value than with HAL.
Great city with so much to do.
We loved Vigeland Sculpture Park and the Folkemuseum (ferry ride required)
So much to do in this beautiful city. Book ahead for Anne Frank House and Rijksmuseum.
Booked train ourselves and cycled down. Stunning views.
Book train directly and well in advance and save a fortune on HAL prices. Unless you book an excursion or plan your own there is not much to do in Flam as picturesque as it is.
Cycling down is 20km and is tough in places but is a gorgeous ride for those able. Book cycles with the cafe in Myrdal before you travel. If not able to travel just get the train both ways,
Pretty little town with good walking options.
