This was our first river cruise and cruising the Danube in April was a great value and fit our schedule. Viking took care of everything from booking, travel arrangements, destination information and highlights and a wonderful ship, friendly, service-oriented crew and great experiences. The ship was immaculate, always, and very comfortable. WIth 4 levels everything was convenient and easy to navigate. Our Veranda cabin was nicely appointed and well laid out. Dining was outstanding, with breakfast, lunch (when onboard at the time) and dinner were available in the dining room and in a cafe at the ship's stern. Service was great, menus offered tastes for all, and included local items of the country/city of our location. Wine and beer were complimentary at lunch and dinner, and a well-stocked bar/lounge offered other drinks.
The itinerary included at least one excursion each day, along with several optional excursions at extra costs that could be booked well in advance. Tour guides were all well informed, pleasant, easy to understand and thorough. Most excursions lasted 3 or 4 hours with time for individual exploring. Highlights included a full day trip by bus to a castle and small village in the Czech Republic, the Melk Abbey in Melk, Austria, tours of Vienna, a wine-tasting excursion to winery in Austria, that also is Viking's supplier or house wines. Stops in Melk, Durnstein, and Vienna Austria, Bratislava, Slovakia, and Budapest, Hungary provided a wonderful taste of old world Europe, cathedrals etc., as well as modern city rural life. All in all, we could not have been happier, and would definitely go again. Viking is the best.
