We wanted a cruise that was smaller than the "big boats". The boat was wonderful, very comfortable. We wanted to see historic sites and have tours that covered these places. We thoroughly enjoyed the tours. We booked one extra - World War II tour that was equally excellent. The food and service were everything we had hoped. My husband and I would recommend this cruise to anyone, and good friends of ours have already booked the same cruise! They are planning on doing the reverse route - Amsterdam to Basel in September.

The only improvement that I would suggest is to the wifi. Occasionally it was difficult to get a connection in our cabin. Then, we would go up to the computer area.

We did not do the extension before or after our trip. The departure was excellent. We found the arrival in Basel a bit confusing in that there were luggage carousels for France and also for Germany. Perhaps the dual nature should be explained to people arriving in Basel.
