Lisbon stupendous. Needs more time so recommend an extension. Coach to Porto for embarkation - very interesting. Ship=Torgil. The overall cruise couldn't be faulted in terms of service, food and free-flowing wine, Excellent excursions.

However, a very BIG worry is that this ship is not safe. It has mechanical/electrical faults which appear to be intermittent and we all know these are the most difficult to find. When we boarded, there was no electricity; hence no air conditioning, refrigeration or lights. This lasted about an hour before they finally fixed it and after 5 minutes, it failed again. Once fixed again, we had no problems until the penultimate day. Two of the engines failed and the captain had to ram the boat head first into the shore to avoid it hitting sideways and doing great damage to staterooms, etc. He was then able to restart everything and we sailed away with no further incidents. Sitting at the front and seeing your boat rapidly going straight at the rocky shore was one of the most frightening moments of our lives. The captain handled it extremely well but when is something going to happen that causes actual bodily injury?

The so-called swimming pool is a waste of space. 3 feet deep and very cold. Size of a large hot tub and it would be far better to replace it with a hot tub. No one used the pool but everyone was commenting that they wished they had a hot tub.

Cabin Review

Standard Outside Stateroom

Cabin E

Cabins are very compact, enough storage space, tiny bathrooms and no chair to sit on. Can hardly walk around the bed but this is fairly typical of cruise ships.

Port Reviews

Porto (Leixoes)

Quaint and surprising city, full of charm.

Pinhao

Relatively boring little town but nice for a brief stroll.

Vega de Terron (Salamanca)

Wonderful town to walk in. So many interesting sights and museums. Food galore!

Lisbon

Lisbon deserves a few days. Don't miss the seafood!
