We sailed on the Viking Skadi (The Grand European Tour) from August 20 - September 3. This was our second cruise with Viking and it did not disappoint. We flew into Amsterdam 3 days early so we could explore Amsterdam prior to our departure on the Skadi - I would recommend this because the river cruise departs the afternoon that you board. Our cabin was a decent size (we had a French balcony cabin class) and the bed was comfy. Bathroom supplies were refreshed liberally. (We joked that every time we touched a towel someone replaced it !). There was always lots of food available on board and it was universally excellent. The staff were superior - after a couple of days they knew what everyone normally ordered and often appeared with it before we even asked. There was a nice of mix of people on our boat - mostly 55+ I would say but several couples in their 40's as well.

We had some type of "included" tour at every stop and most stops had free time and/or optional things to do. Viking uses a "quietvox" system where each person has a box with earbuds and the person leading the tour speaks into a microphone that is heard by each person. This is really nice and you don't have to worry about trying to hear what the leader is saying all the time. We did experience a tiny bit of "on the fly changes" due to changing water levels between Nuremberg and Passau but we did not have to change ships as I have read some others had to do. Water levels are something that no cruise line has any control over and everyone on our ship "went with the flow". It was disappointing that not all of our stops were actually right in the town and required shuttle buses into town. Again, this is not anything that the cruise line really has any control over. This was a wonderful vacation and we would definitely sail with Viking again.

Cabin Review

French Balcony

Adequate size. it was nice to be able to open the full size sliding door to let fresh air into the room. Bed was comfy but we would have preferred a little bit softer. Limited drawer and hanging space. In room refrigerator was useful for small items. Large bottle of water replenished as it was used. Shower has glass door rather than curtain so water actually stays where it's supposed to be. Towels and other bathroom amenities refreshed twice a day as needed.
