We chose this cruise for the length of it (7 days) and the convenience of not having to drive or fly to another port city.
Excellent crew members make our trips on Princess Cruises ships delightful, and this trip was no exception. In fact, I think the crew members this trip were even more personable than those we've encountered in the past.
Dinners and breakfasts in the dining rooms were fresh, delicious, and served with a smile. Eating in the Horizon Court is suboptimal, in my opinion. It takes a while to gather all of your food, and by the time you find a table and start eating, the food can be cold. Trident Grill had pulled pork sandwiches - but we only saw those once at dinnertime. That was an excellent sandwich. (Note to Princess: More of that, please and thank you.) The other offerings are - burgers and hot dogs fresh off the grill - provide a good, basic meal.
This cabin is perfectly adequate for two people. Interior rooms tend to get a little stuffy and warm, even with the air conditioning on at the lowest setting. We opted to bring an "air circulating" fan (specifically a small Vornado), and that alleviated a lot of the stuffiness.
As we treat our cabin as just a bedroom and the rest of the ship as "living space," we find the savings to outweigh any inconvenience such a small space may present.
We went to the Aquarium of the Pacific. It's a beautiful facility, full of interesting exhibits and volunteers. Highly recommend. (Tip: Just Uber over or catch the local shuttle. Walking directions on map apps are misleading.)
We Uber'd over to the San Diego Zoo. It's just a beautiful place. The new exhibit, Africa Rocks, will open in 2017. There's a lot of construction going on, but it didn't interfere with our visit.
There's a great sit-down restaurant in the middle of the zoo - Albert's.
Someday we might take the La Bufadora and City Tour excursion. We booked the cruise late, and that excursion was sold out. We walked around the city, kind of away from the main shopping district. We returned to Calle Lopez Mateos to explore Casa Ramirez for a souvenir and then grabbed a beer at the sports bar across the street. There are helpful, friendly people working at both places.
