This Trans Atlantic crossing started off very badly for us. Air Canada unfortunately did not see fit to send our bags with us from Toronto, and so we arrived at the ship with the clothes on our back, and no toiletries. Just our meds and a few other things in our carry-ons.

The wonderful staff at the Pursers Desk soon calmed our concerns. They had a selection of clothing left behind by other passengers to chose from. My wife had quite a variety of things to chose from, but me, not so much. Nevertheless I found a dark suit that did not quite fit me but did the trick for formal nights, and a blazer several sizes too big to wear in the Dining Room on informal nights. Plus a few short sleeved shirts. They came up with a new pair of shoes for each us to use for the voyage, plus gave us credits in the shops to help with the purchase of some new items. They even came up with tooth brushes, toothpaste and deodorant. I can't say enough good things about the Pursers staff, especially Beverly and Pryia. One of them even loaned my wife their personal hair straightener for the duration of the voyage. Other passengers we met unbelievably gave both of us underwear, which the shops do not carry for some reason. So what could have been a disaster turned out just fine and gave us a memory of this cruise we will never forget.

This was our fourth Trans Atlantic on QM2, but the first in several years. We did a guarantee on a BY balcony, and for the first time with Cunard, did not get an upgrade, which was initially disappointing. But the cabin was just fine. The ship has just come from a "Remastering" and all of the public room carpets and furniture appear to have been replaced. Everything in our cabin was pristine, except the carpet. The Regular Balcony staterooms did not get new carpet in the Remastering, I understand. But overall the ship was in like new condition throughout.

Cabin Review

Balcony, sheltered

Cabin BY

This Cabin in the second last on the starboard side of Deck 6. I was worried initially that it might be noisy or that we would feel a lot of vibration from the propulsion system. My fears were groundless. It was as good a cabin as we have ever had. Everything worked perfectly, except the toilet stopped functioning twice - perhaps because it is nearly at the end of the suction line for that deck. It was quickly fixed. There is a children's play area opposite in the centre, but the doors are on the port side, so we never saw or heard any children (there were some on board). The bed was super comfortable and all the furniture looked new, including that on the balcony, replaced I believe in the Remastering that took place in June. There is a new big screen TV opposite the bed.
