We chose this cruise line since we'd cruised Tulip TIme about 10 years ago. This time took family on Christmas Markets cruise from Amsterdam to Basel, including pre cruise time in Amsterdam. I needed two cabins so budget was a consideration and AMA was somewhat less expensive than first choice Uniworld. We were not disappointed in the least: the AMAcerto was decked out in holiday finery, staff including cruise director Sonja were top notch, the cabins were lovely and spotless, and the food was a real step up from our prior cruise on AMA and uniformly excellent compared to our experiences on Oceania and Seabourn. Excursions were split up by interest and fitness level (we took a 3 hours power walk through Strasbourg, where other "gentle walkers" needed more assistance. Something to please everyone. Excursions were not overcrowded--probably 20 in a group at most. Local guides were excellent. Some fun on board activities in the evening, everyone in a festive spirit, just a very, very pleasant cruise visiting the beautiful Christmas markets along the Rhine. Everything about this cruise was quality, and I considered it excellent value for money. I'm fussy and have no criticisms at all. We are looking forward to doing the Christmas Markets on the Danube and will definitely choose AMA for that as well as for any other future river cruises. They have really stepped up their game since we did their Tulip Time cruise about 10 years ago.

Cabin Review

Stateroom with French balcony and outside balcony

Cabin AA

About 216 sq ft including balcony. Cabin was in excellent condition and spotless. All the usual amenities. Storage adequate. Cabin service top notch. No room service on this ship unless the cruiser is too ill to attend the dining room. Double twin beds moved to form one bed, in room limited entertainment menu (need a few more movie selections.) Internet worked pretty well compared to other ships in past.

Strasbourg

It's France, what's not to like?

Strasbourg

Beautiful old cathedral

Speyer

Took excursion from Speyer to Heidelberg. Heidelberg had lovely Christmas Markets and is a neat town to visit, despite Rick Steves opinion that it's too touristy. I've been there twice and loved it both times. Had an excellent guide for the old castle, highly knowledgeable.
