We choose this cruise for the departure point (Chennai) and the nights in Yangon, Myanmar. The of the ports we have seen previously but happy to enjoy again.
We spent three nights precruise in Chennai and spent the days doing walking and cooking tours thru Storytrails - highly reccomended.
Embarkation was easy - handled thru Crown Plaza as the Port Terminal still not complete.
Port Blair, India super to see but very poor. Great transfer by Azamara to centre of town but not much to see but had an interesting walk thru the markets. Other guests used rare Indian Rupees or US dollars for Tuk Tuk rides around the island.
Yangon, Myanmar - a highlight. We did a Circular Railway tour with Yangon Urban Adventures on the first day. Our guide Myo was super. Second day we used Uncharted Horizons Myanmar to do the Discovery Bike Tour of Kanaungto River Island.
Phuket we did an Azamara Tour - Sea Canoeing around James Bond Island. Fantastic tour, well run and well priced.
Penang - we know very well and did our own thing.
KL - we spent the day on board as we have been to KL many times.
Singapore again on our own.
Journey's upgrade looks super, tastefully decorated and better use of public areas with the introduction of the Pool Grill and Tapas Bar at Horizons.
As usual Azamara's greatest asset is its service staff. Wait staff and room staff quick to remember names and our favourite drinks. Food in Windows superb as was meals in Aqualina, Prime C and the Italian Chefs table. Discoveries is not for us as it it too noisy and we believe the food is better at Windows, esp sitting watching the sunset!
One of Azamara's weaknesses is it's on board entertainment staff. We left during the Glenn Miller night as the band was out of time and tune. We tried again but it's just not our taste. Opera singer Clara Helms that was bought on board was excellent - and managed to get the band under control and in tune!
The only other disappointing part of this cruise was the lack of presence of senior staff. Used to seeing the Captain, Cruise Director and Hotel Manger about the ship we rarely saw them - only once the CD and HM in Windows, perhaps they only dine at Discoveries! We passed the CD on the gangplank one day - in a hurry we jumped out of his way!!
Whilst we didn't book another cruise on board, if we decided to cruise again it will definately be with Azamara - hopefully when they return to Alaska.
Super cabin - could possibly be a little noisy when White Night is on (was moved inside for our cruise. But otherwise a quiet location.
