We decided to tick another thing off the bucket list and booked a transatlantic cruise from Southampton to New York as part of our big 30th anniversary celebration. From initial booking to receiving final documentation, all was very easy and straight forward. We arrived about an hour earlier than our allowed time slot for embarking, but there were no problems. Had to wait about 40 minutes for our 'letter' to be called, but plenty of seating. We were travelling with our 17 year old daughter, and she was desperately scanning the waves of people arriving, hoping to find some other young ones, but couldn't find any!! We reassured her by telling her we would be the young ones on the ship and she could hang with us!! Our letter was called, and it was an easy process to 'checkin' and get given our stateroom cards.

Walked onboard and straight to our room where our cases were already waiting outside the door. Down to the buffet for some lunch. We only ate at the buffet on a couple of occasions, but always found it to have the most lovely presented food, a big range of food choices and plenty of it!! One time we were there we noticed a man use the serving utensil to pickup a food item and put in his mouth (ugh!!), straight away a chef told him off and took the utensil off him and put at the back to be taken for cleaning. QM2 staff actively promoted the use of the hand gels and always kept the buffet tables clean and wiped down. Although busy, we always managed to find a table without too much fuss.

Our room was an inside stateroom on level 12. There was definitely more movement up on this level, and our daughter did suffer with some initial seasickness even though she was taking tablets. There were gale force 8 winds, so this explained it!! It was good on deck 12 as it was easy to get to the pool/hot tubs. Our room, although compact, had everything we needed, and was kept nice and clean. We ordered tea/coffee toast a couple of mornings to our room as our daughter found it better to eat some toast before getting out of bed (helped with sea sickness). There was no choice for vegemite, but one morning I thought I would give it a try and manually wrote 'vegemite' on the request form and it was delivered!!
