We chose this cruise as we were going to a wedding in Germany and we elected to cruise the Rhine prior to the wedding. We has wanted to go on a river cruise as we had seen the Viking advertisement and I found the advertisement to accurately describe what we experienced. Every day we were in an interesting port and had great guides. When we were on the boat we had great food and enjoyed the company of many interesting people.

We liked this cruise so much we went on another Viking cruise on the Danube in December. The second cruise was just as good as the first one. The beauty of the Christmas Markets and the less crowded tourist locations made the cold seem just fine. We would definitely consider another cruise.

We made new friends on both of our cruises and have kept in contact after the cruise. We are very impressed with the quality of Viking and would book again at some time in the future.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Stateroom

The cabin is adequately roomy and well decorated. The bathroom has heated floors and contemporary Scandinavian fixtures. The bed was very comfortable. For our tasted the pillows could be more plump and rather than just a comforter we looked for a sheet and blanket as we were too hot in the summer. Air conditioning was controlled in the room and worked great. When we were not asleep we were mostly out of the room so we did not mind having no balcony. There is a window that is at chin level that looks out a few inches above water line. We liked our room fine and booked at the same level when we sailed the sailed the Danube a few months later.

Port Reviews

Strasbourg

beautiful town!

Koblenz

The black forest was a highlight for us. We enjoyed hiking some of the trails at the black forest past water falls to an old mill.

Cologne

The walking tour was near the Cathedral and we went on independently to explore the city. One of the nice things about Viking is they give you free time to explore on your own and offer some helpful hints.

Basel

We chose to walk around Basel on our own. It is a small city.
