We have sailed on Journey a number of times and it gets a lot like home every time. I guess familiarity with the ship and many of the crew gives you a good feeling, and you get to feel even more welcome.
Singapore was a one day experience but we have been there many times. Great city where everything just works like clockwork. Our boarding at Harbourfront went like a charm but it would be an improvement if you could check your baggage with the agent earlier. Many, like us, fly into Changi on red eye flights arriving around 7:00am at the pier. If you don't know the drill about lugging your luggage up to the Ferry desk and paying to check it there you can be stuck sitting around with it for around 3 hours.
Weather didn't help this cruise but it was still a great itinerary, Have done all thew ports except Ha Long/Hanoi before so we organised our own thing in the others.
Missed Ko Samui due to local flooding.
The central docking a Klong Toey in Bangkok and the shuttle bus service made it almost a good as having a city hotel for walking around. The Malls and shopping areas are a great place to buy good quality things a reasonable prices and the Markets are fun.
First day in Saigon we used the shuttle bus to do the market and walk around the CBD,
The Azmazing Evening was very good but up against tough competition if you have done the one in Yangon.
Second day we hired a car and driver for a group of 6 and had a great day around the sights at our own pace for a very economical price.
Da Nang was a similar deal having pre-hired a car and driver we went to Marble Mountain and on to Hio An. again able do do things at our own pace including a boat ride, a great lunch and a visit to the food markets. Our driver then gave us a tour through the country and around the highlights of Da Nang.
Did the ship organised Boat tour in Ha Long Bay and then the bus tour to Hanoi on the second day.
Great tours but glad we were on a ships tour coming back from Hanoi as the traffic made us 2 hours late getting back holding up the ship. We still got our hot chocolate on the tender pier though.
Docking in HKG and off loading went well and the Island city is as much fun as ever, if a lot more expensive each time we visit.
Azamara achieves a great balance between excellent service and a laid back friendly vibe. The crew really do enjoy looking after you and in return you get to be friendly in return. Win Win.
The inclusive drinks are good enough unless you want something special and the fact that you are not constantly reaching for your card adds to the enjoyment, Food and service are great without ever being pretentious. Entertainment is very good and all the officers are visible, friendly, approachable and very professional.
Looking forward to the next time we can come home to Journey
6077 is a good cabin
Like all R ships you put the shower on rather than stepping into it!
Refit has improved the cabins a brightened them up
Hanoi was a great tour including an electric buggy ride through the crowded old city area, visits to the Hanoi Hilton, and to Uncle Ho's mausoleum and home/office.
Trouble was the traffic. We were 2 hours late back and the ship had to delay sailing. Bit unsettling, but that was why we selected a ships tour!View All 30 City Tour Reviews
Good tour but caves very crowded.
Not as strenuous as pre warning.View All 65 Halong Bay Reviews
We used the shuttle to do the main markets day1
Azmazing evening evening day 1.
Day 2 we pre-hired a car and driver for a small group and did the city, the city sights at our own pace having the opportunity to visit museums, pagodas, churches, Chinatown and a lot of other sites. Good way to do it if you have a reliable booking agent an good value.
The shuttle was very convenient if you wanted to do your own thing. Having been to Bangkok a number of times that suited us very well giving us flexibility and the opportunity to walk and shop through the city.
