We were on 14 day Grand Medirerranean. I wanted more sea days to enjoy the ship, but my goal was to get to Tunisia and Algeria. Next time...
Viking is REALLY Norweigoan. Gjetost, Success cake, Reindeer broth. I love it. Too bad there wen't more ! But for "normal" people, there was THE BEST 12 oz NY steak, WONDERFUL salmon, HUGE crab legs in the evening buffet, much better than average sushi, wonderful 4pm TEA with string trio or guitarist. The public rooms were ingeniously multi-purple and beautiful. They really put significant thought into the ship. (including bits of whimsy in the elevator shafts and elsewhere. You had pay attention to notice them: it adds a happy smile!)
Another wonderful thing was what was NOT on board. No gambling, no art auctions, no announcements, no bingo. No children. There WAS a HUGE library and lots of great nooks and crannies to cozy up in. 2 "firesplces" ... so beautiful and relaxing. No ties, few suits.
More drawers than we knew what to do with. Heated bathroom floor was a REAL NICE touch. The shower was LARGE ! ! No begging for tips for roomservice. Night light in the bathroom and hall. The door to the veranda was awkward for my wife. The sofa and the chair need to be higher for these old knees. The bed was very good. The reading light on the headboard was lousy.
Over all, it was delightfully done, well thought out and my negatives are very small relative to how lovely it was.
We love Barcelona. We stayed at the Hotel Colon on Cathedral Sq. Magnificent. Next time we will join the dancers on Sunday morning. (It's free and you are welcome to join.)
Great to get out of town and see people. Meeting and talking to locals is what gets me goping.
