My husband and I are not typically "cruisers" but had both liked the idea of a small expeditionary cruise through Tierra del Fuego to the "bottom of the earth." The Stella Australis offered the perfect opportunity with a 4 day cruise (not so long that we'd start going stir crazy). Overall the experience was exceptional.
The ship is small enough to easily find your way, but large enough that it never felt crowded. I believe maximum passenger number is 200, on our cruise total passengers numbered around 160. Everything ran very smoothly and efficiently. This appeared to be a first class operation.
We had a standard cabin which was unexpectedly large and roomy. Everything was scrupulously clean. There is only one dining room and seating is assigned by language. Our dining companions were a delight, and meals became one of the highlights of the trip as we often sat talking until the dining room had cleared. Service in the dining room and in the bar/lounge was excellent.
