This was our first cruise with American. The trip met or exceeded our expectations on all aspects. The boat was only two years old; is maintained in excellent condition. The boat crew and hotel staff folks were all efficient, highly trained professionals. The food service was outstanding! Best of all, the small ship experience made for a warm, friendly environment. Seems by the end of the week we knew most of the passengers and crew. Day trips along the way were interesting and well organized. The river lorians provided a wide range of information about the river, the commercial vessel traffic we saw, and history about the various ports and places we saw along the way. On board evening entertainment was always fun and a nice way to end the day.
This trip is not inexpensive, but there are no "hidden extras" along the way. And they most definitely do not cut any corners on the amenities or food and beverage service. It was a first class experience all around.
Beautiful grounds. The slave area exhibits were very interesting.
The walking tour was very interesting. We got to see the old capital building, and then went inside the new capital. The view from the 27th floor was outstanding.
Bus and walking tour of Natchez was fun and interesting. Some unique history there.
Vicksburg is a fun city to investigate. Lots of civil war history. Plus, the Corps of Engineer Museum of the Mississippi was very nice. The Mississippi IV is part of the museum and is accessible inside. Was a great experience.
