Destination, Price, and size of ship was all factored in when we booked this cruise.

The ship was great yes it is a little outdated but just fine. Rooms were nice, staff was pretty good. They seemed to be a little standoffish but pleasant enough.

Dining was pretty good not a big variety but OK..Buffett was very good.

Port Reviews

Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)

At this port we did two things.

1.Impact activity: Reforestation planting

2. tour of Christopher Columbus Path and La Isabela Ruins.

So with the re-forestation planting it was a hard work but really had a great time. We were in mud from head to toe planting 460 oak trees along a very hard terrain up hill and down hill. Everyone worked together and like I said had a great time. My only regret is that I did not come prepared clothing wise for this impact activity I know next time. Oh and bring washing soap so you can wash your clothes when you get back to the ship. Washers and dryers are free all you need is your soap..

It needed to be a bit more organized we had to wait around for holes to be dug which was very time consuming. The paths should have been cleared first then the holes dug so all we had to do is drop in the plants. I feel we could have done much more had this been more organized. There was such a group effort it was amazing..everyone worked together. Great experience for all of us.

Now back to the ship and off to the Christopher Columbus Path & La Isabela Ruins. We put in this very small bus that was made in China. The seats were so small and uncomfortable it was un-beliveable. You literally could not move and the ride was every bit of an hour long. Just for an example the aisle space was about a foot apart or less.

Anyway our tour guide was excellent and so was the excursion. it was amazing to learn the history of the island and its first inhabitants. We also went to the La Isabel museum which a big part of it is outside. You got see see where Christopher Columbus house was and how the native Taino indians lived. The church and the remains of the ruins were just amazing. Now is say beach time well is was not exactly what we though there is really no beach time in other words no suit needed. We did stop at a beautiful rustic oceanfront Dominican restaurant that overlooked the ocean with tiki huts and a swimming area but we did not use it.

They served us sandwiches, chips and a drink..which were very good.

So back to the ship on our tiny bus and the hour ride back.

We really enjoyed this excursion except for the bus.
