Uniworld was recommended by our travel professional and from online reviews, we could only surmise that Uniworld knows how to do a river cruise. And guess what? The recommendations were spot on!
The Queen Isabella is a fine ship and the crew is just spectacular. Our cruise director, Tomas, is top notch and the entire crew matches him in professionalism, dedication, focus, and motivation.
The ship itself is a fine vessel, although not quite as good as those we have sailed with with Avalon Waterways on three previous river cruises. Our cabin was a bit cramped compared to similar Avalon cruises but that could simply be a function of the Douro River. Also, we would have really enjoyed a second lounge onboard, similar to those present on Avalon ships.
The food service on the ship was spectacular. In every way. Excellent choices of entries, sides, and desserts and every type of beverage possible. We even had a waiter who made a special cappuccino for us after every meal.
Cabin service and laundry service were superb. Evening entertainment was consistently fun and of top quality.
Our tours were also top notch. Fine choices and well informed and accessible ad understandable gives who provide solid and interesting information at every port.
Surprisingly, Uniword did allow a smoking area on the upper deck of the ship. For nonsmokers like me, this was annoying. Smokers should not be allowed to smoke anywhere onboard.
Would we use Uniworld again? Absolutely! Cannot wait.
A bit cramped but ultimately useable and comfortable.
