Took the Alaska cruise leaving June 25, 2017 on NCL Sun. 7 day cruise starting in Seward and leaving ship in Vancouver. First time on NCL and would rate the cruise ship as average but the Alaska adventure outstanding, ports and glaciers left us in awe. The Good: Service on board, cabins, restaurants and entertainment was good, staff smiles and energy were good. The Bad: Cruisers always kid about the food but it was a reality and no joke with respect to what was served board the Sun, if you enjoyed low quality but high volumes of fast processed cafeteria type food that sits on steam tables hour over hour then you will like what the Sun serves. We expect the buffet to offer cafeteria type food but this is the first time for me that I have taken a cruise and lost weight because I did not want to eat what was served. The buffet foods were tasteless as was the foods served in the restaurants which lacked the quality that I have found on other past cruises. We special ordered fish several times and each time it came back overcooked and dried out. With all the various speciality restaurants offered on board it would have been great to see one offer seafood as a main selection or just offer something healthy to eat that tastes good. Interesting as we were in Alaska and very little local foods were served on board. The salmon that was served was overcooked so bad it was like leather to eat. Sun is an older ship but the Balcony Cabins have been remodeled and we found the beds comfortable. Showers are jus big enough to turn around so don't drop anything or your head goes outside the curtain to pick it up and be prepared for the drastic changes in water temperatures while take a shower as it is really hard to regulate and keep it at one temperature, vary means just right one second to freezing or scalding the next second. Now for the "Really poor"... if the Casino is your normal stop then don't take the Sun to enjoy the Casino, not sure how the disconnect in warmth and friendliness escaped the Casino staff. The dealers reminded me of a bad movie, attitudes that reminded me of mobsters, no smiles, no personality and most made me feel like I was a burden just being at the tables, this must be the reason why half the time I saw a lot of empty tables. At one point I overhead the dealer making fun of a customer to another dealer, no class in service to see that happen. Speciality restaurant's just OK, nothing to write home about and not worth the expense. Debarkation process was good and we did a self carry off which would allow us to make it from Ship Cabin to Vancouver airport in less than 45 minutes. NCL would not be my first choice for next cruise even though i would rank the overall experience. OK and just average.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BA

Cabin was good and surprising efficient. Cabin steward was great, very attentive. Easy to store 3 suitcases under the bed. Balcony view was unobstructed and location of cabin was quite and away from hallway noises. Shower very small and water temperature varied greatly while taking a shower. Hair dryer was a cruise line entertainment joke, should I say anymore?. Service staff had plenty of smiles and made you feel special.
