We had been on a Thomson cruise for the first time 6 years ago with our two children, but decided we would enjoy a holiday just the two of us as those children are now capable of looking after themselves!
Due to a late flight into Corfu, we didn't arrive on board until about 11:30pm. We had a small late night meal from the buffet restaurant at Lido Deck 9 and then a couple of drinks in the Water's Edge Bar before turning in. The exterior room with window was lovely with very comfortable beds. The criticism I would make at this point is that there were bottles of water, boxes of Pringles, a small bottle of wine and a bar of chocolate laid out on the table which we thought were part of a rather generous welcome pack! I must admit, we put the water into the fridge and began on the wine straight away. We then found a page on which we were to record what we had used from the mini bar (more items were also in the fridge). We realised upon checking at reception that only tea and coffee were free and everything else must be paid for. So be warned! We thought this was a rather sly move in an attempt to get more money out of the customer.
We anticipated that there would be excursions available to book and decided on three days of excursions (pricey, totalling over £300!) and these were enjoyable and well organised. We particularly enjoyed the kayaking around the City Walls of Dubrovnik which kept us lovely and cool and we stopped at a beautiful cove where we had a sandwich and a cooling dip in crystal clear waters. We availed of the boat laid on by Thomson to take us into Venice at a cost of £28 each; however we discovered that a water taxi from port cost just £13 each return, a price which wasn't mentioned in the daily port info sheet. Exploring the narrow winding streets was more enjoyable than walking along the canal front which was terribly packed as you would imagine it would be in high season!
