We chose this cruise because it included Astoria, Oregon and the Pacific coast and traveled up the Columbia and Snake Rivers to the western foothills of the Rocky Mountains. It traversed multiple climate zones, from the Pacific rainforest to high mountain deserts and finally mountains. The river climbed through multiple locks, the Dalles and ended at Hells Canyon on the Snake River. Gentle cruising along the river gave us opportunity to observe wildlife, small villages and towns, and lifestyle in remote areas of the west. While traveling, we were provided informative discussions on the travels of Lewis and Clark, in reverse of their journey, local entertainment, and lovely accommodations. The meal service was well done, with open seating at all meals, and a good menu selection. They cheerfully altered menu items to your preference, and provided half servings of entrees for the smaller appetite. There was a cocktail hour preceding dinner every evening with open bar and plentiful appetizers. With only 140 passengers, it was easy to meet everyone and feel welcome at any activity.
Our cabin was at the front of the vessel, with two large windows overlooking the prow of the ship, and a side private veranda. It was spacious, with a king bed, 2 nightstands, two club chairs, desk and chair, and dresser with TV. A small closet with hangers provided storage for both clothing and our suitcases. The bathroom was small, with a stall shower. A small refrigerator was stocked with bottled water, drink mixers, and white wine. A bottle of red wine and glasses was neatly placed on top. Refills were provided as needed.
