Although we are a seasoned cruise family, this was our first river cruise and our first venture with Viking. We were overwhelmed at virtually every aspect of our trip. Our room was well appointed and very comfortable. The on-board service was extraordinary, particularly the food service. My wife is highly allergic (anaphylactic) to shell fish, tuna and salmon. I alerted the food service director upon boarding of her situation. He took personal control of her dining needs. Each day he provided her options for the following day. Some of these decisions required special meals. At every meal and function where food was served, he found us immediately upon arrival and let her know what presentations she needed to avoid. This was quite helpful in situations where hors d'oeuvres were served, This associate went over and above the expected attention and level of service that we expected. Our trip was marked with numerous highlights too frequent to detail here.
Contrary to a recent traveler's comments about stacking boats side by side, we found absolutely no issues with air quality while docked along side or between other Viking long boats.
My wife, who is usually quite reserved with her lavish reviews called this "the best cruise by far that we have ever taken."
We were conveniently located in the first cabin adjacent to the center lobby of the vessel. Our room was generous in size and perfect in every regard. The bed was comfortable. The appointments were well done. The service was excellent.
