Sail Date: Apr 2017

We have sailed Europe's rivers with Viking River Cruises and had a wonderful trip each time, so when looking for a cruise in the Mediterranean, Viking was our #1 choice. We enjoyed the 3-day pre-cruise stay in Tuscany, then boarded the Viking Sea in Venice. Embarkation went very smoothly as there were many welcoming faces to assist with the process. There were the tedious but very necessary security checks.

The Viking Sea is a beautiful ship. Our cabin was spacious and well appointed. Our cabin steward took care of our every need. Viking employees are courteous and helpful. There were plenty of activities onboard. We especially enjoyed the lectures and nightly musical reviews. Dining was a dream. We never had a problem getting seated, and the food and wine were scrumptious. Good variety and nice portions.

An area in which Viking excels is the inclusion of at least one excursion in each port with a local guide and audio headset. They also offer many additional excursion choices if there is a particular experience you wish to enjoy, such as off-roading or visiting a winery. Getting on and off the ship for the excursions was very orderly and quick. Because the ship is smaller, they are able to dock portside and we only need to use a tender once, in Monte Carlo.

Toulon

We enjoyed the panoramic city tour, and then walking from the ship to the old part of Toulon. Great shopping and people watching.

Barcelona

Excellent local guide and wonderful first visit to this beautiful city.
