This was a family/friends group of 25 multi-generational and widely diverse persons traveling together (ages 18-82). We choose the Rhine Getaway Amsterdam/Basel for our 1 week journey with post-Lake Lucerne. With such a wide range of ages, as well as backgrounds, I wasn't sure it would appeal or be equally enjoyed by all - HOWEVER, each and everyone of us were beyond thrilled with the entire vacation. It Exceeded all of our expectations. From the second we all were met at the airport by our Viking Host, to the minute we stepped off, every detail was handled. The staff and crew went above and beyond to make our entire trip exceptional for the whole group!

Ship is very bright airy and open with views from every space. Cabins very clean, updated, and provided tons of storage. Our cabin steward was never seen, but our cabins were always impeccably cleaned and I never came back to an unmade room. If you laid out laundry/or pressing, it was done and returned within the hour. I can not say enough about the quality of service. My group met in the lounge for a bon voyage cocktail once on board - the bartender asked each of us our name & from that point forward remembered us, as well as our drink of preference! The Lounge was a favorite hangout. The entertainment pianist was fantastic appealing to all ages and played to her audience - we looked forward to every night to "unwind" from our busy day - with some nights "wound-up" for a fun filled night of singing and dancing. They also had several other entertainment performers/talks which were excellent. The food was great, never disappointing, however, it would have been nice to maybe have a late night snack or food available in the lounge or terrace restaurant late evenings. The upside to that is they do allow you to bring on food/drink from ports, so many nights we sampled our purchases in from the village we toured each day. The 24/7 coffee bar was awesome and not really that far of a walk from anyone's cabin. The coffee/espresso selection amazing and the cookies every afternoon/evening the best! The program director was a wealth of info and always available as well as the officers of the ship. The Captain was always available to answer maritime history, or navigational questions as we floated down the Rhine. Especially while moving thru the locks, which was very interesting. There were a few glitches like the ship needed to move during one port stop for generator installation while we were on our included tour, but the crew made sure it was the least disruptive as possible. Made for a long walk from the city center - but honestly, not really a huge issue. They at least saw that maintenance was handled to not cause us to deviate from our itinerary or miss any port time. One last note, as most, the initial reaction for the group was this trip would be an expensive vacation. HOWEVER, by the end, we all felt like it was a total value & exceptional price for everything included and the level of service that we each received. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

Cabin Review

Veranda Stateroom

Cabin B

Cabin was large open, airy, bright, with plenty of storage. Loved that the bathroom floor is heated, and that the glass enclosure shower doors swing both directions to give you more elbow room.
