My wife and I had been discussing a river cruise for quite a while. We finally decided on the Grand European Cruise with Viking. All aspects of this cruise exceeded our expectations. The ship was modern. The stateroom while small was well furnished and immaculate. The French Balcony provided excellent views and great fresh air. The element that was totally outstanding was the devotion to customer service. We were asked many times during the cruise by several of the crew if we were satisfied and what more could they do for us. My wife was ill with a cough the last couple days and our waitress made her some tea with honey and lemon and brought that along with a light lunch to our cabin for her. The service was above and beyond our expectations. Our cruise director made sure we were well informed and entertained. The excursions both the included and several optional ones were enjoyable and enlightening. One thing we did not enjoy was the amount of walking required for some of the tours. We avoided the one described as strenuous but many of the others involved a lot of walking which for us was a bit much because we are older. To be fair though, all the guides would inquire about the speed of the walking and did offer to go slow if that is what we wanted/needed. They did their best to accommodate us but we didn't want to be a burden on the rest of the group. I have nothing but praise for their concern for their customers. We look forward to our next cruise on Viking.
