My mom, my daughter and I traveled together. I think it was harder for my daughter to engage because at 18 she was the only person in her age range on the ship. The outings were great for all and the optional events gave us a range to choose from and the ability to personalize our trip for our interests and activity level. Active is a relative term. It was never taxing and an offering of one or two excursions that were more challenging than a walk around town (although they were long) would have been nice. There is a walking track on the ship but I didn't find that I had very much down time on board to use it.
Embarking was smooth, leaving was harder. We had to wake at 3am and wait for our group to be called to the bus to the airport. It was not a pleasant experience. Many other people who also booked through Viking that we spoke with initially had the 6 am flight but for a $50 up grade were offered a later itinerary. I gladly would have paid if I had been offered this. This last bit of the trip was so annoying and disruptive that it really tainted the trip for me. For some reason, I let it get under my skin.
Would I go again? Yes! I'd just be sure to not just take what was offered for flights. I'd negotiate better flights.
The cabin was great. Not big but didn't need to be since we were rarely in it. A little more storage for our clothes would have been welcome. Only brought a med size suitcase and my daughter brought the same but we kind of battled for drawer space and I ended up stacking it on the stool and leaving some in the suitcase.
Bathroom was great! And the bed was insanely comfortable!
The man who serviced our room every day was so sweet and worked so hard. He was outstanding!
