We chose Viking to cruise because of the excellent reviews of the river cruises. I've always wanted to visit a castle. We toured and viewed a variety of ruins and restored castles. My favorite day was the cool day we were on board all day traveling a section of the Rheine with castles along the shore one after another. The crew provided blankets and hot chocolate with amaretto while the captain narrated, providing history and stories about each castle.

The food was excellent. We loved eating in the Aquavit Terrace because the chef catered to our desires. It was quiet and romantic in the evening. But then we loved the main dining room because we were able to make new friends and visit with old ones. There were always 3-4 selections of very well prepared main courses. Breakfast was excellent with a custom omlette prepared as I watched and a selection of fresh fruit. This was one of many choices, just happened to be my favorite.

Cabin Review

Veranda Stateroom

Our cabin was small as was to be expected. At first I thought where am I going to put everything but soon found there was plenty of storage space. The bed was plush and the bathroom was compact with plenty of storage and a great shower. Our balcony didn't get as much use as I thought because we were too busy with excursions and activities on the boat. However, it was a great place to snap quick pictures of the extraordinary views.
