River cruising is the most pleasant and safe way for me to travel -- embark, unpack once, and visit several interesting destinations. For this cruise, Viking expertly handled all of the details and consciously strived to make every one of the 160 guests feel special and well-cared for. Umbrellas were at the ready on a rainy day and bottles of water available before every excursion. The dining room & bar wait and reception staffs earned A-plusses for their consistently attentive, responsive, and personalized service.
The bartenders did a great job customizing cocktails before dinner (or anytime!). Mealtime was most enjoyable with a fine selection of daily and specialty entrees -- locally sourced fish and fresh vegetables for salads helped offset my failure to resist the desserts (sometimes having 2), especially the ice creams and sorbets.
See below for the cabin review.
I feared I would experience hallway noise as passengers late leaving the bar passed by my cabin directly behind Reception -- however, I never heard a soul. Small in square footage compared to a hotel, the cabin offered a king size bed and ample closet and drawer space. While I didn't watch TV or movies, I did enjoy the selection of music and a splendid sound system. The shower would be tough for anyone much taller than 6'.
