  3. Carnival Miracle
Embarkation: Another wonderful Southern California day. Traffic at port was light. We arrived a little early as did many of the 550 Diamond and Platinum guests. Carnival reception and check-in team were dressed appropriately for a Hawaii Cruise. After checking in at the normal reception area we were directed to an outside seating area to wait for embarkation to begin. All in all, it went quick and efficiently. 5 of 5 Room 5129: Room ready and clean. Steward Sakti stopped by and discussed service and our expectations. We requested cleaning once a day with nightly turndown, Ice, Robe and glasses for bath room. We do ask a little more than expected but he understood and accepted the challenge happily. We had this room Steward last month and what a difference in service provided on this Cruise. Sakti might be reading my Cruise Critic Reviews. Highly recommend Sakti and his team to anyone. 5 of 5 Steak House: 1st night We had reservations for 8:00 PM seating. We like to take advantage of the wine special. Went in and set at the bar early, ordered a bottle of wine. The Bartender IGusti from Bombay had to go to store room to get it. After a little delay he showed up with our wine, was very talkative and friendly. Ask to be seated in Isabela’s section where we were recognized from our last visit, and greeted with enthusiasm. I had the Spinach Salad, Lamb, baked potato and Chocolate Sampler. Was not disappointed but the Lamb was a little tougher than I expected but tasty. DW had the spinach salad, with Lobster Tail with mash potatoes. Her Tail was smaller than expected in fact it was about the same size as the one in the main dining room on formal night. Isabela and her team waiter Julie Rashal provided exceptional service. On DW’s birthday we were treated again by the Casino to another visit to the Steak House. You know it, we ask to be seated in Isabela’s section. I had to go back to my normal Filet Mignon but had the escargot as appetizer. DW had Lobster bisque, cream spinach and Lobster tail again. Vibin the Chef visited the table and we discussed the cooking class he was part of the day before. One complaint on second night we ordered a bottle of wine from the wine list and again they didn’t have it on hand. We selected the second and it also wasn’t available even in the store room below. Come on Carnival why put the wine on the list and not have it. Overall the Steak House on the Miracle has become a place we look forward to visiting at least once on every cruise. Meet and Mingle: Held on 1st day at sea 4:15 Sam’s Piano Bar. I hope you can read the smile on my face. This was one of the best turnouts I have seen at a Meet and Mingle. Over 45 CC members along with Lee Mason Cruise Director and Bryan the Entertainment Director. Carnival provided snacks and refreshments. Lee talked to the group extensively about his experience with CC and it was very entertaining. Later Lee and Bryan made it around to every table or group to talk with everyone. Bacchus Dining Room: Assigned table #171 Head Waiter Ahmad, Team Waiters Denisalv and Lone. Emailed the Maitre D’ a week before and requested Ahmad’s table because Ahmad’s experience stands out. Ahmad is one of Carnivals most seasoned Head Waiters. Denisalv made Ahmads job easier they worked together smooth and without confusion. Over the 15 days we got to know our hard-working team from Bacchus Dining Room as they also worked the lido dining area. Sky Box: What a surprise, Dimitar Andrievki is back in Sky Box. We have had the pleasure to visit and hang out with Dimitar in the past and consider him as cruise family. His help Nebojsha from Macedonia is just about to become another extension to the family. Both do whatever it takes to provide great service. Going to another bar or store room to get Perrier Water is an example of the Carnival Service at its best. They had their hands tied on this trip because the World Series was on local TV and we didn’t have signal in the middle of the Pacific. Why can’t Carnival Cruise Ship receive a full list of sports channels anywhere in the world? Why is it that Carnival does not provide west coast TV channels on Pacific Cruises? Who cares about local Miami news and weather when in Alaska and Hawaii? Entertainment: We had the pleasure to meet in passing the Entertainment Director Bryan on many occasions. We noted he was very interactive with the passengers as he moved thru the ship. Cruise Director Lee always on the move and hosted many events we attended. Not going to list all the events we enjoyed but have to make special mention of a few; 1- Georgios George and the Comedy club acts were all good and some exceptional. 2- The impromptu Group sing in the Mad Hatters ball room very fun, 2- The Liars Club with Lee, a very hard laugh to be had by all. 3- The Stage Hypnotist was lots different than other stage Hypnotist Carnival has had in past cruises and “I loved it”. I think his name was Dan Shoener. 4- “LSB” Lip Sink Battle was entertaining. 5- Chef Jerry J. Furtado had a demonstration of his cooking and I thought it was very interesting. Oh, for those who do not know me, my specialty is eating not cooking. 6- Lee had the best Fun Squad we have come across on our 20 cruises on Carnival. Oh, what a great time! Casino: The Casino on Carnival Miracle is one of the best of the fleet when you are nonsmoker. It still reeks yet it doesn’t have a cloud as you walk down the main hall. We need more nonsmoking areas in the casino with better ventilation. The Casino Hosts Hazel and Elley kept all the action on the move. Thanks for the big smiles and personal touch you both add to the casino. Ports of Call: Kahului, Maui: Took an Uber to Kaanapali Beach, Sheraton Hotel on a hunch. $32.68 Uber-X ride took about 45 minute great views and the driver had good ideas and info. Sheraton ask $268 for a day pass includes 1 room. Not in our budget but the beach was pristine and free. No public restrooms so come dressed. It was interesting to watch the people dive off the cliff and snorkeling was good little coral but lots of colorful fish. The Uber driver recommended the Monkeypod to eat we stopped at the Hula Grill and Bearfoot bar next door. The food and service fit the bill. Honolulu, Oahu: Uber to WaikiKi beach and visited Duke’s bar and restaurant. The view of the beach is great its fun to watch the surfers and Hawaiian Canoes. Could be happy just spending the day on that beach. Next stop Maui Brewing Company for coconut porter beer, its just across the street. Last of the morning stops was Tommy Bahamas dinning above the clothing store on 4th floor. You can put your toes in the sand while having a great Hawaiian dish. Back to port for our late afternoon excursion. Aloha! off to the “GERMAINE’s LUAU” now this is a party. The bus ride is a little long in rush hour traffic. Oh yea! Honolulu has rush hour traffic jams. Back to the good and important part “can those girls ever Hula”. Good show, good buffet food, lots of traditional acts. A little rain didn’t slow down the pace. Highly recommend for all ages. Nawiliwili, Kauai: We decided it was a little expensive to take the helicopter ride around the island so we went and booked a private excursion on our own. AirVentures Hawaii 1/3 the price in a 6-passenger air plane. They picked us up at ABC store just as you exit the port and took us to airport short 5-minute ride. We went the long way so the driver could show off the scenery nearby, that was an extra! As for the plan ride, it couldn’t have been a better day or experience. It had rained the day before and that made for more waterfalls than normal. If you ever go call AirVentures and do it! Kailua-Kona, Hawaii: Warm and dry that morning as we got off the tender, grabbed an Uber to the Straw market. Driver said “try the apple-bananas” it’s something you can’t get on the mainland. Straw market was a little let down because it wasn’t quite as big as we were led to believe. Purchased some bananas and pineapple. The driver was right about the apple-bananas being very good. Think I ate 3 and pineapple in Hawaii is a no brainer. Coffee was expensive and they didn’t have the Kona Coffee Macadamia Nut Brittle we were looking for. After shopping we heeded back to the closest beach near port. This turned out to be Marriott Hotel next to Kailua pier where the tenders dock and next to the Kamakahonu National Historic Landmark. Nice beach with a few rocks under the water. The snorkeling must be good, lots of people were snorkeling and scuba diving just off the pier. Next stop after the beach was a nearby bar for a couple of Cold Kona Beers. Returning to the pier Lee and some of the funs squad was waiting with cold towels and water for those in line for the tender. That’s the special treatment and fun squad make waiting for tender fun and relaxing. Hilo, Hawaii: This was a great Free self-coordinated excursion. We disembarked and after exiting the cruise terminal Boarded a new large Green Bus. During the trip the bus driver gave us and explanation of economics of Hawaii, talked about the local business, told the story of how the freshwater lagoon along road came into being. All in the short distance to the “Walmart”. Now let the shopping begin! Driver was a hoot and the mall next to Walmart had all the stores we are used to seeing back on the mainland. This Walmart has a souvenir section just for us tourist. We found it, purchased the Kona Coffee and Kona Coffee Macadamia Nut Brittle we were looking for. And as normal at Walmart, the price very reasonable. On our return trip our bus driver entertained us with a few songs, great singer. The best song he saved for last “Just hang loose”. Back on board “Aloha Hawaii” Ensenada Mexico: We debarked and turned our phone on to make phone calls and text messages. Did not leave the compound. Over all this was a great Cruise. Will rate it a 5 of 5 because they do not have a 4.6 notch on the 1-5 scale.
