We chose this time to travel because it is normally so Hot and Humid in Houston Texas, and we wanted to avoid the heat. We arrived 2 days early in Amsterdam to adjust to the time change before the cruise and see more sights in Amsterdam. We learned too late that the way to travel from the airport to the City was via the public rail transit. It is cheap and reliable. Buy a day pass for the number of days you are in Amsterdam.
Once on the Modi, Viking handled everything for us - We has booked a AA-Veranda Suite and it was well worth the extra $$ - we had a seating area that made it relaxing in our room and this level offers free laundry ( which we started using after a few days into the cruise). The room was on the highest deck which was much quieter than the decks below, especially going through the Locks.
The open seating was fun as we shared meals with people from all over the world. the quality of food was outstanding. I got to explain the US Electoral College to several people that were interested in the USA election for President and were wondering why it was not only the popular vote. One set of friends we met will meet us on our next Viking Cruise in January 2019.
The included tours were always good and the extra tours purchased ahead of time were also fun and entertaining. Don't miss Salisbury - it was fun with scenes where The Sound of Music was filmed. We especially enjoyed the grand tour of Vienna - Waltz dance lessons, a fabulous lunch at a famous restaurant, and a walking/bus tour of Vienna with a spectacular guide.
Did I mention the FOOD on board was Spectacular?
The extra seating area was quite relaxing after a long day - Other travelers complained of nowhere to sit except the bed. The included laundry is a triple plus!
