Despite being a great ship, the Ovation is let down by the poor management and associated service. It should be a jewel in the crown, rather than deadweight on the anchor.

The first sign that things were amiss was the handling of bags after boarding. Every cruise I have been on bags usually appear a couple hours after lunch or the late afternoon at worst. RC managed to ferret our bags away until 7:15pm (after we had eaten dinner in our travel clothes), and this appeared to be the case for hundreds of other passengers. Rather than immediately throw people at the problem, however, the management seemed quite happy to let passengers wait until well into the evening before realising they had a problem on their hands.

The rooms are great (we had a balcony on deck 12), given the new build of the ship, but expect very in terms of consumables. Accidently pack the cheap power adapter and they’ll slug you US$25 for the oversight.
