Cabin: Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Our cruising background since 2012 when we started. HAL x 2, Princess x 1, Carnival x 1, RCI x 3, Celebrity x 4.

This cruise was a 60th birthday celebration of one of our two cruising companions.

Our first impression on arrival at OPT was "this ship is huge". Daunting? Possibly. Apprehensive? Yes. At luggage drop off everyone was being asked if they had any alcohol in their luggage and, if they had, it was to be removed and carried on board through check in. We had a couple of bottles of wine in our bags so we had to take them out. This was a procedure new to us.

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D8

Cabin was roomy with two closets and plenty of coathangers for our needs. Also plenty of drawer space and shelves too. Good size bathroom, similar to Celebrity Solstice. Shower was roomier than on Radiance with glass(?) shower door not curtain. The only problem with the bathroom was the light for the large mirror which was too far from it and if you needed to look closely your face ended up in shadow. Counter top was roomy enough with plenty of space for 'stuff'. There was no shampoo, conditioner or body lotion as on Solstice, only body wash in a wall dispenser in the shower. Small cakes of soap are provided along with a box of tissues.

The cabin desk was smallish but adequate. the best thing was the number of power outlet including two for USB charged devices. Only problem with that was that the apertures only allowed iphone plugs. The android ones we had with us were to big to fit. We had an Aldi adapter so this didn't affect us. There were three other power outlets and a multinational adapter was there if you didn't happen to bring your own.

The large TV was on the wall at the foot of the bed and could be swung out to be viewed from a long sofa. There was a very poor selection of programs and movies were pay for view except for a few old B & W ones from the 50s or 60s. Good thing was local news channel from Oz and NZ.

The balcony was roomy with two sunlounges and a small table. It was a little too cool for our liking to spend much time out there. Balcony was accessed via a large sliding door which was easy to operate and seemed to seal quite well. The bed was very large (two singles together) and comfy.

Oasis has the best cabin fridge we have come across. You needed to input an access code, just like the cabin safe, and this is a signal to the fridge to start. The access code was then required to subsequently open it. We kept a bottle of white wine in it and it chilled quite nicely. I think these fridges would be fine for those with meds that need refrigeration.

We didn't hear any noise from adjoining cabins but there were the usual bumps that can be heard on any ship when the swell gets up a bit especially in forward cabins like ours which are closer to the water.
