I booked this cruise for my 17 yr old son and myself on opening day (more than 500 days out). This was our 3rd Disney cruise and his last chance to do the Wild Side Teen Adventure on Castaway Cay after previous 2 attempts were cancelled due to weather. Originally, we were supposed to go to Eastern Caribbean (Tortola and St Thomas) with 3 Sea Days. Because of hurricanes in September, our itinerary was changed to Western (Cozumel, Costa Maya and Cayman) with only 2 Sea Days. Initially, this was a big disappointment since we'd already done the Western and we weren't going to Jamaica (our favorite Western port)...and we were losing a Sea Day. All planned and booked on board activities (dining, tastings, meet/greets, etc) had to be changed, so everyone was feeling the 'chaos' of this itinerary change. We were patient with what DCL was dealing with as we weren't the first of the Eastern cruises that had to be changed, so I understood the immediacy of others needing help before me. Patience paid off as we got the on board activities re booked at favorable times and we were able to do what we wanted at each of the ports.

The weather was absolutely perfect the entire cruise. We had one or two very brief moments of rain, but it was still warm and enjoyable on the upper decks. This was the first cruise that I'd spent any time at Satellite Falls and was so very glad I did this.

There were 3 movies that we wanted to see and we were able to see all of them without compromising anything else we wanted. It was opening weekend of Thor:

Cabin Review

Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah (oversized verandah)

Cabin 04E

This is our preferred category and location, so we were very pleased with the cabin. We spend time on the verandah, so the extended size is wonderful. The room is large and has lots of storage. We are able to completely unpack our bags and store them under the bed (with very easy access if needed) out of the way. The split bathroom allows us to each select a sink for our own use. Both bathrooms are kept well stocked with DCL supplies throughout the cruise. LOVE that there is a shower and tub and it is nearly full sized. Plenty of outlets and USB ports for whatever you may need. Card slot for lights may be confusing if you aren't aware of them ahead of time, but, if you bring an extra card with a magnet on the back, you can just store the card on the wall (since walls are metal) next to the slot and insert it easily when entering the room. We will continue to book this category and location for future sailings!!

Port Reviews

Cozumel

We've been to Cozumel before and did excursion (dolphin encounter) and really enjoyed it. We wanted to just get off ship and do some shopping in ports on this cruise, so we opted to not do excursion here. We spent a few hours shopping and returned to ship for lunch and to spend the day enjoying Fantasy.

Costa Maya

Even though we'd never been to Costa Maya before, we again opted to just get off ship and explore the port. Online reviews showed a very nice shopping area and all of the excursions that were available were not of great interest to us. We noted that the shops had all of the same souvenirs as we'd seen in Cozumel, so we didn't buy anything other than a tshirt and a hat that had "Costa Maya" on it. There were a few street performances that were Pirate themed and fun to watch even though it was very 'touristy'.

Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

We've been to Cayman before and did the submarine and enjoyed it greatly. This time, however, we decided to just go to Seven Mile Beach on our own and enjoy the day. We had no trouble finding a cab (large van/small bus) that was inexpensive and we decided to get off at the second stop. There were 7 cruise ships in port that day, so the island was very crowded. The ride to the beach was quite uncomfortable because there were sooo many people crammed into the vehicle and the AC was not working well, so it was very warm.

We were dropped off right at the entrance to the free public beach. There was souvenir shopping and dining right there. We were instructed to see the man in the red shirt to get a chair and umbrella. Otherwise, we would have to just be out on the sand. It was quite warm and intense sunshine, so we opted for 2 chairs sharing an umbrella (each was $5). Because the island was so crowded, it was really difficult to enjoy our time at the beach. The umbrella did not provide the best shade and there were so many people in the water that it was had to just walk along the beach. The food was quite expensive, so we decided to go back to the ship before lunch.
