San Juan is still pretty devastated. We stayed one day before and 2 days after. That being said the big hotels have all services and the port is in fine working order. Embarkation was seamless, debarkation slower but without problem. Jewel OTS is in my opinion in great shape for an older ship. We like this class and tend to sail on it the most. We had a group of six, 4 very recent cruisers and 2 that had a longer break. Our daughter and her husband were on Harmony OTS last year and had very low expectations for a ship this small. They both expressed numerous times how pleasantly surprised they were with this cruise. My husband and I were on Serenade OTS last year and found this to be equally delightful. Because of our group, we did My Time dining at an off time and we were seated at the same table every night. Our service was great, the food excellent. A note on the food, we have been cruising for almost 20 years and dining is not what it once was. So in my realistic expectations, it was excellent. We are not big entertainment people, so I can't speak to that. We did have fun at the piano bar at Schooners a couple of times. We spent a considerable amount of time at the pool, pool bar and solarium pool. We got up early got our chairs and cleared them when we left, however we did spend many hours there. We did not see much chair hogging, and there were almost always open chairs when we were looking.

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D2

The cabin is on deck 11, a new cabin added on the last dry dock. It is in a space formerly occupied by part of the spa. It is below the running track on deck 12. The balcony is only very partially covered, so people on deck 12 can look down onto the outer portion your balcony. All of that being said, my group occupied 3 cabins in a row. We are all pretty early risers. The runners only woke any of us once, but once we were up in the morning we could hear them. The privacy of the hall and the convenience to everything we wanted to access outweighed any other inconveniences for our group. It is a standard D2 cabin, same size, same small bathroom, same small shower. If you are with a group, the balcony dividers can be opened however we choose not to and it was great. Not for everyone, but we would book this location again.
