We started with a few extra days in Prague which is well worth visiting with so many sights, food and interesting shopping venues. We then headed to our embarkation point of Budapest where after dinner the enchantment of this cruise began with a cruise up and down the Danube River through the lit up city. It was a thrill to think that this was only the beginning.
The Skadi was a wonderful ship with superb dining, fantastic crew, and outstanding service.
There are superior food choices, wine with meals, gourmet deserts, and many of the meals include locally obtained produce. It is far too easy to find you have added a few extra pounds by trips end.
Our cabin was on the lower level which gave us a very interesting viewpoint of the river, the shoreline and even ducks swimming by our large window. Our cabin was ample, comfortable and especially quiet. Ship noises and cabin neighbors were never even heard which was very representative of how well these ships are designed and built.
Our Cruise Director and Hotel Manager could not have been better. They both made sure that they were there to answer any questions, provide services, and socialize with guests.
It was very evident how much the crew likes what they do and who they work for when you see them working as a team. We were taking on supplies at one port and I witnessed them individually carrying supplies to the storerooms, not some but everyone, the hotel staff, the wait staff, the engineering staff and even the Hotel Manager, Frank, himself and the Captain. I have spent years around ships and I have never seen the Captain loading stores and provisions as part of the ship's team until this trip. The Captain told me that it is just part of the Viking package that everything works out the best for their passengers.
The Shore excursions in every port are a valuable way of making sure everyone has a wonderful inclusive trip experience. Even the extra trips a good value as well as educational and fun.
The entertainment provided was unique and appropriate for the local area and provided in an intimate lounge atmosphere.
We were able to meet many wonderful shipmates and have continued to keep in touch and are hoping to maybe see them on a future cruise.
We are already planning to travel with Viking again as soon as our schedule will permit.
The problem may be how to choose between so many great destinations.
Too many places, too little time.
Thanks to our Captain and Crew, our Cruise Director and Hotel Manager, our cabin stewardess (who kept us clean and healthy) and our waiter (whose recommendations were right on every time and who kept our palates satiated and wine glass full), we had a trip full of memories.
AS mentioned above, we were on the lower level and would not hesitate to have that level cabin once again. Mainly we spent little time just in our cabin with so much to do, or see or just to sit out on deck and enjoy the air and see the small towns and villages as we passed.
