This was our first ever cruise. We were enticed by the value, destinations and newness of the ship. Of course the destinations were changed due to the hurricanes but there was no email advising us. You had to find that out for yourself. But since they added one destination we weren't concerned. The first indication that there were problems was the smell of sewage as we hit deck 5 where our room, guest services and the main bar spot was located. As we entered our cabin we continued to smell the crappy odor. We were told there were some technicals problems. Apparently they were not corrected since cruisers from the week earlier, Dec. 30 embarkation date complained about sewage as well. Then we heard gurgling from a floor vent located next to the toilet. Told guest services and they corrected that but the smell of sewage was still present.
On the 2nd day, one of the closet doors fell off its track. I pushed it back, a very heavy door, and contacted guest services. They corrected it quickly by attaching a metal strip along the bottom of the closet next to track. They continued to apply this fix to other rooms in the week.
On the 3rd day, I checked my account on the cabin TV and noticed there was a daily room service charge. I again contacted guest services by phone, since there were always long lines if you wanted to speak to someone face to face. They removed those fees since when I booked the cruise MSC stated that there there were to be no extra gratuities charges.
Mariano Silvana was fantastic. Give this guy a promotion. As well as Sailesh at Ipanema restaurant and his helpmate Girishi. Excellent.
