We were two couples traveling together interested in exploring historic and cultural sites around the Peloponnese including ancient and Homeric sites and modern costal towns. The cruise met and exceeded our expectations. We particularly wanted a small ship cruise. The Galileo was comfortable, clean, and well managed. The crew was wonderful. Food on board was excellent and plentiful. And we were especially impressed with the quality of our guides -- Josef and Jenny -- who were knowledgeable about art and history, insightful about Greek culture and politics, and helpful, fun, and funny as guides in general. It was a real pleasure to travel with them. Our favorite stops were Delphi, Monemvassia, Pylos, Epidaurus. The shipboard experience in mid October was delightful -- enough sun for sitting out on the deck (though not enough warmth for much swimming, alas) and except for one day, calm seas. We would certainly recommend this trip.

Cabin Review

Cabin Category A

Cabins on small ships in our experience are relatively small; there is not a lot of room for extra luggage. This was not a surprise; Variety Cruises was very clear about the space limitations in the material sent before out trip, and I say this not as a complaint but merely as information for anyone considering this type of cruise. That said, the cabin was plenty roomy for the amount of time we spent there, which was not all that much. Sleeping, some short resting time, and bathing. Mostly we wanted to be out of deck, or we were off the ship on shore excursions. The cabin itself was comfortable, though some of the closets and cabinets showed signs of wear. The bathroom was fine, not luxurious but completely serviceable and cleaned and attended to daily. The shower was good (there is no bathtub.) There was plenty of hot water. The beds were comfortable -- two twins pushed together to be king sized. Between the gentle rocking of the boat in motion and my tiredness at the end of each day of activity, I slept like a baby. Public spaces on the ship -- the galley and sun and sitting decks, were comfortable. There was a lot of crew on the ship, all very helpful and accommodating. Bar service was excellent. There's a TV in each room, and WiFi is available for a small fee. We would certainly travel with this company or on this ship again.
