We chose Viking because it was recommended by a family member as something to try. We traveled from Amsterdam Netherlands to Basel Switzerland on the Rhine river and an additional two nights in Lucerne.
From the moment we arrived the hospitality was outstanding. The room was enough for us. We had a slider to view the surroundings and had plenty of space. Everything on the ship was quickly accessible due to the size of the Kara. With only about 185 guests on the Kara we felt more relaxed than on a cruise with 3000 other people.
The excursions were educational and fun; seeing Cologne Cathedral up close was breathtaking! We always enjoyed walking through castles like Marksburg or towns like Kinderdjik with the windmills, Rudesheim and Strasbourg.
There is a walking track on the top deck. We traversed the track many times to burn off a few calories from the day. After dinner we would walk and see what the countries looked like at night.
Every morning we enjoyed the breakfast buffet with an assortment of fruit, pastries, cereal, omelettes made to order and much more. Lunch could be had in the dining room or a lighter fair on the terrace. Before dinner we went to the lounge for a cocktail or two. The dinners reflected the places visited and were very good. The complimentary beer and wine were a nice touch during lunch and dinner. We got to know the wait staff who were exceptionally accommodating and friendly!
We have been on other cruise lines, but none compare with Viking. We had such a very good time on this cruise, enough to sign up for the Viking ocean cruise from Bergen Norway to Barcelona Spain. We recommend this cruise line to all!!!
The room was enough for us. We had a slider to view the surroundings and had plenty of space. It was nice to have the 110 wall plugs.
