We chose this cruise because it was going to six islands we had not been to before and the convenience of leaving from New York. Our disappointment was with the food. In the 14 days, we ate in the Manhattan Room 10 times and only once was the food hot. It was like warm at best. We had reservations for 5:30 every night and never left the dining room before 7:00 PM. Leisurely dining is nice, but the service was way too slow. The food was m okay, nothing great. No more fillet or lobster nights - you have to go to the specialty restaurants for those meals. The theater is on one deck instead of two so it fills quickly. If you chose to go on the breakaway, make a reservation for everything you can prior to boarding. We even reserved the complimentary dining room ahead of time. And the shows definitely have to be booked ahead of time or you will miss out.
Norwegian needs to do something to change the way you board the ship. We arrived at the pier at 11:30, our assigned check in time to find maybe 300 people ahead of us with later board times. It took us 1 1/2 hours from the time we arrived until we boarded the ship. When we sailed on Royal Caribbean, you walked in and were checked in with a crew member with an I Pad and walked right on the ship. New York boarding is especially difficult in winter - waiting outside to check in is very uncomfortable when the temperature is 24 degrees. If they are going to assign you a boarding time, they need to adhere to it.
TV viewing on ships is limited, but we were thrilled to learn that they would show the Super Bowl on all TV's on the ship, including the cabin TVs.
Our cabin was spacious, plenty of storage in the closet and enclosed shelves. Also, plenty of storage space for toiletries in the bathroom. The balcony was smaller than previous Norwegian cruises with the chairs facing each other rather than facing outward. The cabin is very well designed and suitcases fit nicely under the bed. Our cabin steward, Alvin, kept it very clean.
