Pre and Post stays made a great transition to and from the river cruise. Everything about the Grand European River Cruise was excellent.
-The Captain was up early working with his crew.
-All staff were very professional and had excellent customer service attitudes. Aleksandra the suite attendant was great, dining staff were great, Gary Nicholson the Cruise Director was a hoot and kept us laughing, entertained and organized on our excursions.
-The ship was open, extremely clean and limited to about 180 guests which was fantastic compared to other company ocean cruising which is overcrowded.
-We did in 15 days what would probably take us months to do on our own, getting a taste of a wide variety cities, towns, history and culture.
-The food was wonderful, great, excellent. My husband was pleased with the variety of offerings. Coffee, Tea and snacks were always available.
-The ship was very accommodating with dining for shore excursions that ran throughout the day.
We cant really identify one or two excellent points on this trip, because everything was top notch.
-Not to mention the beauty of the river with its castles, towns, cathedrals and peoples which made this a trip of a lifetime for us.
Viking became our go to vacation group for us, just from this one trip.
Our suite was perfect for our two weeks on the ship. Absolutely no problems and the suite attendant was very accommodating for any request we had. The sliding glass door allowed us to enjoy the river scenery regardless of the weather. We loved being up top and outside but our suite was roomy and felt like home for just the two of us. Lighting, temperature, television, movies, weather, trip information and a camera that you could watch from your room as the ship cruised. All the creature comforts of home without the maintenance or cleanup.
Walked through the town which was very nice with a mix of old and new further in.
A wonderful city on the water with a LOT of bicycles. There is a lot of history and art that was fascinating but unfortunately didn't have enough time even with two extra days in the city.View All 311 Canal Tour Reviews
Breath-taking, amazing and fascinating, The Dutch Masters especially Rembrandt cant really be appreciated until you can see the originals up close and personal. The building and grounds were beautiful.View All 77 Rijksmuseum Reviews
Peter Wells the tour guide was the best tour guide for the entire trip. The other guides were very good, but Mr. Wells made you feel at home and took time and effort to show the little things that made this excursion the best.View All 184 Cologne Cathedral Reviews
The statue of Wilhelm de Grossen brought back my husbands german roots and said this felt like home to him (even though he was born in Texas)
The tour of the Bishops Residence was wonderful, but the real joy on this trip was the excursion to Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Wow, this place was fascinating new world living in an old world environment. Castle- like battlements, quaint shops, beautiful old world architecture, and some good german food made this one of our best excursions.
We did the the city tour and the undergound tour based on the movie the "Monuments Men" about the Nazi theft of all nature of Works of Art during WWII and their recovery.
This town and excursion was special for us as it was on our 30th anniversary. My husband loved the Wurst Kuche and the history of the Roman Bridge and development of this restaurant starting in the early hundreds (179AD?). This was an example of the saying that all roads lead to Rome.
Cruising through the Wachau Valley with the wide river, quaint river towns, and castles was breathtaking and soul restoring.
We toured the Lippizan stadium and horses, we learned the Viennese Waltz and we had a wonderful 5 course meal at Reataurant Vestibul. Last but not least I was able to get a few of the famous Sacher Torte from a little shop in front of the Sacher Hotel.View All 169 City Tour Reviews
The Schonbrunn Palace was wonderful but the surrounding grounds and statues were the bigger draw for us. The further you walked you came to an entrance for a zoo just beyond the palace.View All 179 Schonbrunn Palace Reviews
