The Lofoten is the oldest (1960s) ship of the Hurtigruten fleet & quite a different experience to their modern, cruise ships. It was absolutely beautiful, full of character & charm with the old wood & brass throughout. The smaller ship was extremely friendly, warm & welcoming - both crew & passengers.

Please be aware there is "nothing" to do except watch the breath-taking scenery go by & read your book - which was perfect for me! The ship does not have modern cruise facilities (shops, gym, pool etc) but truly doesn't need them.

It make short stops along the coast & out into open water & up into the Barents sea with a couple of longer (only a couple of hrs) stops at Alesund, Tromso, Bodo, Trondheim, Honningsvag, Kirkenes. I did the 1 wk journey from Bergen to Kirkenes.

Cabin Review

My cabin was an inside single traveller, small but perfectly adequate, well designed & spotlessly clean. It was warm & cosy & had everything I could need for the wk.
