We were expecting an amazing expedition cruise to many new locations for us and Silversea in Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam. Unfortunately the local governments would not allow us to use the Zodiaks in many places which either cancelled sites or required us to use local tenders. Silversea had to make many changes throughout the voyage and the first half we ended up on way to many busses for too long and not seeing any nature or great sites. SS recognized that this was not what people expected and refunded 50% of our cruise fare plus $2K per person cruise credit. I felt they really understood are issues and fairly compensated us without having to ask. The second half of the cruise in Cambodia and Vietnam was really fun and overall we had a great time mostly thanks to the wonderful people we met on the cruise. This was our 3rd expedition cruise on Silversea and 5th overall Silversea cruise. Im not sure I would want to go on an expedition cruise in Asia again with all of the beauracracy, especially not the first one to new destinations. We absolutely loved our expedition cruise on SS to Antarctica and Galapagos. The ship itself was our least favorite of the expedition ships. The explorer was much better layed out with more storage in the rooms, a real bar which is missing and the dining room in the explorer with panoramic windows is to die for. I found the food hit or miss on this cruise while every other SS voyage has been outstanding. The service was awesome as usual. I know others on the ship were really disappointed by the issues but we did end up enjoying the cruise even if it was significantly different than expected. We will definitely do another expedition cruise on Silversea but probably not sail on the discoverer again.

Cabin VS

Room not as nice as similar room on the Explorer. Overall their was a lack of storage especially in the bathroom and it seemed smaller than Silversea other expedition ship. Our butler and housekeeping were spectacular. No laundry on this ship like the explorer.
