To start with a perspective, this was my first cruise. So I can’t compare this ship to others.
We had a balcony cabin: D2 (9552). I found it more spacious than I was expecting, with a couch that was perfect for chilling on. The balcony had two chairs, but no lounger. But it wasn’t tiny. I was surprised how much storage there was, including under the bed for your luggage assuming the bag is a small check-in size. The shower had great water pressure and the shower stall was a little larger than I was expecting too, though I’m on the short side. Really big/tall people might elbow the sides a bit. Again, good storage in there too with decent counter-space and a long shelf under the sink. There was a safe in the room. They don’t provide or even allow irons in the room, so that might be a bummer for some. There was also no laundry room on the ship, which I thought was dumb.
The ship itself was recently refreshed. Everything was therefore in good condition. Even so, aesthetically it’s a little dated. The main dining room, Tides, had decent if not great food. The service could be hit or miss. The specialty restaurants were definitely better. Chops Grill being the best. Food and service there were very good. Giovanni’s was still good food but the staff seemed less well trained than Chops. The buffet, Windjammer, was decent, with a large outdoor seating area behind in nice weather if the inside is too busy. There was a coffee cafe, Cafe Lattitudes, served good Illys coffee drinks. Vintages, the wine bar near Chops and Giovanni’s, was cozy and had a good wine list. The Schooner and Safari bars were cozy and old-fashioned with lots of dark polished wood.
