We just completed our 10 day cruise around the Canary Islands, Madiera, and Spain and had a great time.

Barcelona is a great port to leave from. It is much less expensive than Venice and flights are inexpensive, and great accommodations are plentiful. Accessing the ship is easy either by taxi, or by taking the metro to Drassanes and then taking the Port bus to the ship. The cost of the metro/bus is around 6 euro total.

The ship is small in comparison to the rest of the NCL fleet. We liked the Jade and figured we would enjoy the feel of the Spirit. It is the oldest ship in the fleet, but has had some remodelling done. Our balcony cabin was spacious and bright. It was lovely to have our morning coffee out in the ocean air. When the couch is pulled out, it is difficult to get to the balcony. Good though that the couch is easily pushed back into place. Our steward Manuel was friendly and helpful and went out of his way to prepare little surprises for our daughter...often incorporating her stuffed animals into his towel sculptures.

Barcelona

We started in Barcelona a few days early and wandered the city doing various things. We stayed on the Rambles and took in a "WithLocals" tour. A great way to see parts of the city we didn't know about. And the 2 hour tour was inexpensive and private.

Las Palmas (Gran Canaria)

Loved this little place. Wish we would have rented a car or taxi to take us a bit around the island. We took a short walk from the ship to the beach. Chased the waves, wandered, and had a nice snack before reboarding the ship.

Tenerife

My husband left the ship and wandered down the beach. We stayed on board. Seemed like a big tired city. Weather was overcast.

Madeira (Funchal)

Best stop on the trip. Lots to do and see. My parents rented a taxi. 3 people 60 euros and they got to see a lot of the island in 2 hours. We took the funicular to the top and road the sleds down. Then walked back into the city, explored the market, etc. We will definitely return.

Malaga

Second favorite stop. Took inexpensive shuttle to town. Walked around the old town, wandered tiny streets. Then we hiked up to the fortress and took in the views. We then went to the beach to each bbq'd sardines and shrimp. We played a bit in the waves and then walked back to the ship.
