Lewis and Clark expedition "Riverlorian" on board was very knowledgeable, and his visual aids and manner of presenting was very engaging. The staff were outstanding in their commitment to providing personal service. Complimentary wine was served at all meals. I asked if they had "14 Hands" wine during the first dinner. They did not have it, but one of the staff bought some at the next port, and served it during every meal for the rest of the cruise! The servers at meal time truly enjoyed what they were doing, learned peoples names, and smiled all the time. When we asked them how they got into their jobs, we discovered that many of them had formal trying and degrees in Hospitality and Tourism or Culinary Arts.

The different staff areas (housekeeping, food service, etc.) evidenced a commitment to ongoing training in that we observed them having daily staff "huddles" to review their areas performance. Procedures used throughout the cruise (boarding, meals, excursions, security, etc.) evidenced excellent organization always

Multiple lounges on board were attractively decorated, clean, and always stocked with refreshments. Before dinner cocktail hour included complimentary top shelf liquor as well as outstanding gourmet quality munchies. We will travel with American Cruise Line again!

Cabin Review

Cabin A

This was the lowest level cabin category, and was the most spacious cabin we have had on over 15 cruises. It was the furthest forward on the ship, which presented a downside, that being the noise from the bow thrusters during docking maneuvers, That, of course occurred only during short periods. The cabin, as well as the entire ship, was always kept perfectly clean by housekeeping staff.

Port Reviews

Astoria, Oregon

Visited Fort Clatsop, Cape Disappointment, and Columbia Maritime Museum. All were well organized and narrated.

Portland (Oregon)

Cruise included pre-cruise complimentary hotel stay at the Red Lion on the river. This is an attractive up-scale hotel.
