We sailed on the AMADante from May 17th to May 24th, 2018 on the new Medieval Treasures cruise. This sailing was the inaugural voyage for this particular itinerary. We started in Basel and ended up in Nuremburg. We sailed the Rhine and Main Rivers. Our second cruise with AMAWaterways. I cannot say enough good things about AMA. From the moment you sign into their website after booking, every part of the experience is professional and so well done. Their website is easy to use and you can get some great information and videos on it. The paper documents you receive along with your lovely luggage tags are such high quality. You do not get booklets of information like this anymore from ocean cruise lines. When you board the ship, the staff is waiting for you and if you are early it doesn’t matter. You are welcomed into the lounge to wait until your rooms are ready. You are given a nice lunch while you are waiting. Our stay prior to our cruise was in Lucerne and then Basel, so we took a taxi to the ship and arrived shortly before 11 AM. It wasn’t long before AMA had the canopy out and welcomed us to board and took our luggage from us. We had a nice lunch and then our rooms were ready and we were escorted to them. Our luggage was already there for us ready to unpack. Our housekeeper, Vladimar showed us the features of the room.

The staff cannot do enough for you to make your stay as welcoming as possible. The entertainment on board was top notch. We especially enjoyed Enrico Novi, a solo artist with the sound of a band. As soon as Enrico started playing his music which everyone was familiar with, the dancing didn’t stop until he did. Enrico was so personable and friendly and such a great singer. The other entertainers were excellent as well and we enjoyed all the shows put on nightly.

We enjoyed the new Sip and Sail program and not only did it include the cocktail of the day but there was a drink menu that you could order from. Very well done, AMA. Wine and beers were included with your meals. There was always a great selection of food items daily either from the buffet or menu. The Chef’s recommendation was very popular each night. No one was in a hurry to get you to finish up a meal, but waited on you with professionalism and charm. The waiter that made the omlettes, David, did a fantastic job each morning. Once he knew your preferences you could almost guarantee he would have your selection ready and waiting for you with a big smile.

Cabin Review

Stateroom with French Balcony

Cabin C

Our cabin was 170 square feet in size. It had lots of storage with room under the bed for our two large suitcases and a big rollout compartment to hold the extra blankets and our shoes. The shower was a little smaller than we had on the AMASerena but that was do to a different layout of the room. It was fine with two different type of shower heads and lots of great amenities for your personal use. The closet had lots of space for storage and enough hangers for everything we needed. Well equipped with two umbrellas for your use as well as lots of extra water to use as needed. The tv system was a Mac computer that doubled as a computer for your own use to send emails, search the net, watch movies, etc. The bed was very comfortable and lots of nice pillows. Ice bucket available for your personal use. There is a large power bar that you can use to charge any items you need to charge the batteries.

Port Reviews

Basel

We spent three days in Basel on our own prior to the cruise. Great city to explore. We stayed at the Hotel Restaurant Resslirytti. Free transit passes and a great city to walk around the Rhine river.

Frankfurt

We happened to arrive in Frankfurt when the city was overtaken by well wishes for the win of their local soccer/football team. Walking tour had to be diverted. Many people partying in the streets. Parade along the bridge which we managed to see when we returned to the ship. Didn't get to see much of Frankfurt this trip.

Miltenberg

Loved this town, very scenic. It was a holiday when we were here but we walked through the town and it was very pretty.

Wurzburg

We walked through Wurzburg on our own. Beautiful Old Main Bridge. Lovely town, it was busy and very hot when we were there but we enjoyed our walk about.

Bamberg

Did a great walking tour here with a guide booked by the ship. We were given a certificate for a 1/2 pint of either smoked beer or regular beer, wine or soda. Very interesting walk, guide was excellent. Very scenic especially little Venice.
