My husband and I have done about 5 other cruises but never before have we experienced a river cruise. I selected AMA after reading reviews on Cruise Critic. Every step of the way was carefully choreographed.We were met in Munich as soon as we excited the airport. We were chauffeured to the ship and when we arrived embarkation was a matter of minutes. So different from a huge cruise ship. There were 150 passengers and most were friendly. AMA's cruise director, Camille, did all she could to make everyone feel welcome. She inspired a friendly, relaxed atmosphere. She was efficient, announcing various events and very good at getting people to participate. The food was wonderful, often in keeping with the area we were entering. The chef's table was not to be missed. The ship itself was very elegant lacking the glitz of cruise ships. Everything is included; all excursions, food, wine and beer and signature cocktails every evening. There were no photo shoots, no dress up nights, no barely talented entertainment. The atmosphere was relaxed and comfortable. It was not at all difficult to be by yourself. . In other words, there were enough areas that crowding was never an issue. The only downside with a river boat is that it is not unlikely to have a ship tied along side so use of the balcony is difficult. Other than that, everything was fantastic even the size of the bathroom! There were many choices in excursions and the pace of them. There were bikes available. A river boat can get right up to the town so if you are docked there overnight you can come and go easily. The entertainment varied with the port. We had nights of incredibly talented musicians. I would book another soon.
