This was our second river cruise, the first being on a different cruise line. Our cruise started out with our flight being delayed causing us to “miss the boat”. We weren’t sure what we were supposed to do once we arrived in Zurich. Friends we were traveling with told us Avalon would have someone meet us to take us to the next port, but we did not receive communication from the boat. Once in Zurich, no one was there. After wandering around for almost an hour and almost getting on the train, someone finally showed up. Heading to our next port we discovered we were responsible for the cost of transportation, over $500. Had we known this before getting in the van, we would have taken the less costly train. Avalon did finally pay for half of the cost.
Overall the cruise was nice. The food was very good, service not as good as our other cruise, and the dining room was very noisy. The excursions were nice and the local guides were very knowledgeable. Our overall experience with Avalon was good, but if I had a choice between cruise lines, I would probably go with the other.
The cabins were small and not much storage.
