My mother has always wanted to go on a cruise, so for a combination of reasons, we decided to make that happen this year. I was in charge of scheduling and booking. I selected the Bliss because it was (is) brand new. It sounded like a lot more fun being on a brand new ship that has only sailed about 8 to 10 times. So everything was new. None of us have ever been on a cruise!

Our sail date was July 14, 2018 through July 21st 2018. All nine of us were excited to be on our first cruise ever. It was my family of 4, plus my daughter and fiancé, and my two parents, plus my wife’s sister.

Family Inside Stateroom

Cabin I1

The stateroom:

We had 3 inside staterooms and one balcony stateroom.

The inside staterooms were all the same, and could sleep 4. There were two twin beds that could be converted to one single queen bed. In the ceiling were two fold down beds that allowed for a total of 4 passengers per room. These beds were comfortable enough, but the room was quite small for 4 people getting ready for any particular day. It is comfortable enough, but there was also a lack of storage space. I ended up using one of the lower beds for suitcases and “lived out of the suitcase” instead of trying to put things into cabinets and closets.

The bathroom was very nicely designed and functioned well with a shower, toilet, and sink, all with adequate water temperature and pressure. The shower had a built-in body wash and shampoo/conditioner dispensers.

The balcony room was much better, and larger than the inside staterooms. This room had an additional couch unit that could sleep two, in addition to the two twin beds that could be combined as well. So this room also slept 4 people. But there was more closet space, and of course the balcony. My mom and dad appreciated being able to wake up and go on the balcony and watch the sunrise and the ocean.

Port Reviews

Seattle

We went to the Pike Place Farmer's Market and had a great time after our cruise. It was a short walk from the pier so it was easy to get to. We left our luggage at the pier concierge which was inexpensive and left us with nothing to carry around. We ate at various places there and tried to go to the Space Needle. We didn't know you had to reserve hours in advance so we didn't go to space needle.

Ketchikan

Creek Street from Ketchikan – This was worth the walk. I saw other people’s pictures of Creek Street and knew we had to go there. A bunch of us walked from the ship to Creek Street. It was an easy walk and we stopped at various shops along the way. On the way back some of us ate at a local restaurant, and some of us went back to the ship to eat.

Victoria

Downtown Victoria – My immediate family wanted to go to downtown Victoria. I got us a taxi right at the end of the pier and had the driver drive us to chinatown. It was a short drive that ended up costing $13 CAD. He offered us $11 USD (1cad=0.70usd) so that was a deal. I didn’t take him up on that deal and gave him $15 USD so that he had a large tip. He was very friendly and had been driving taxi in Victoria for 15 years. Once we were there, we went to the “narrowest alley” which has a variety of stores in the alley. It’s super cute. From there we walked back to the ship which was about 2 miles. No problem.
