Sail Date: Jul 2018

We went on an MSC cruise 4 years ago and decided to try again as the first one was excellent. We embarked in Rome and check in was well organised although once on board it was fairly chaotic and not enough staff to help with initial requests. Our cabin was perfect, plenty of room and comfy bed. We were unfortunately very disappointed with our dining experience. Last time we cruised there were 5 small courses and a great variety. This time there were 3 courses and sometimes I left still hungry (I am not a big eater at all but the courses were often tiny). Others at our table were also unhappy with the food at the restaurant. (We ate at the Red Velvet). Food at the buffet was adequate but sometimes a little tasteless. The other somewhat annoying change was the removal of the "special coffees" from the inclusive drinks package. When you are paying a considerable amount for drinks per day I think you should be able to get pretty much what you want. The cocktails were also quite lacking in alcohol. We did 2 shore excursions and these were acceptable. The other disappointing thing was lack of modern music that isn't piano/cabaret style. A guy playing covers on guitar would be perfect but unfortunately there was no such thing. We are middle aged but appreciate music from today not just music from the 60's, Generally speaking the staff were lovely.
